Good News for Medicare Beneficiaries: HIF Repealed

Aetna Medicare Advantage

As part of the Affordable Care Act, a Health Insurer Fee (HIF) tax was put in place for health insurance plans that are fully insured, leading to higher premiums for consumers. The Federal Government recently repealed the tax starting in 2021.

For Medicare beneficiaries, you could see a significant reduction in your insurance premiums as a result of the HIF repeal. For those with an IAFF Financial Corporation (IAFF-FC) Aetna Medicare Advantage plan, each person could save up to $300 or more per year starting in January 2021.

The IAFF-FC understands that access to inexpensive, high quality health insurance is important to you. That’s why we’re excited to share that the Aetna Medicare Advantage plans will be even more affordable in the future. The four Aetna plans you can choose from include extra benefits not offered by Original Medicare, such as vision and hearing aid reimbursements, the SilverSneakers® fitness benefit and other care and wellness programs to help keep you healthy.

These plans are for Medicare-eligible retirees who purchase their own coverage and don’t have a bargained benefit. If you’re just becoming eligible for Medicare, you can enroll in an Aetna plan throughout 2020 as you become eligible. If you’re already on Medicare and want to change plans, you can sign up for an Aetna plan in the fall.
