The IAFF-FC has recently endorsed two programs to help members with regard to healthcare as both actives and into retirement. The IAFF MERP is a bargained benefit whereby active employees contribute tax-free throughout their career in exchange for a tax-free lifetime monthly benefit for medical expenses in retirement, including retiree healthcare premiums. The IAFF Health & Wellness Trust is a health plan solution in which the active participants would bargain into the plan and members would have access to continue their coverage into retirement, both pre and post Medicare.
